As of today, CDC is finally giving out vaccines for COVID-19 to citizens and residents in the United States. Some of these vaccines are Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnsons Jansen. At first, these vaccines were given out to people who are working at a health care environment, living with elders or working as an essential worker. Now, they are providing these vaccines to people above 16 years old.

CDC has stated the following about the vaccines in their websites:

  • Two Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine doses should be given 3 weeks (21 days) apart.
  • Two Moderna vaccine doses should be given 1 month (28 days) apart.
  • Johnson & Johnsons Jansen (J&J/Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine requires only one dose.

Why is the vaccine so important for International Students?

Many of International Students haven’t been able to visit their hometown or families because of this pandemic. Countries started to open their borders for people who have been fully vaccinated. Such countries are: Spain, Austria, Germany, Greece, Croatia, Bulgaria and Romania. If students are able to get their vaccine as soon as possible, then maybe this summer they will be able to spend it with their family.

Another factor why it is so important for students to get vaccinated is because the University made a statement that it is mandatory to get vaccinated before the beginning of fall semester 2021. If students fail to do so, they will not be allowed to enroll into their classes.

And finally, we all should get vaccinated to protect each other and ourselves. Even though this vaccine may not guarantee that we will not have COVID-19 in the future or any type of side effects, this vaccine is our layer of protection.
